Innovative Telemedicine Strategies: Optimizing Access, Family Partnership, and NICU Support

9:00AM - 9:45AM
Bridging the Gap in Newborn Care: The Impact of Neonatal Telemedicine and NNP Support
This session highlights a robust neonatal telemedicine program led by neonatal nurse practitioners and the impact on improving newborn outcomes, reducing unnecessary transfers, improving cost-savings, and importantly keeping birthing parent-infant dyads intact and families close to home and support systems. Through real-world case examples, attendees will explore the critical role of a neonatal nurse practitioner-led telemedicine program, outreach education services for community and rural hospitals, and research to improve newborn outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
The learner will realize the impact of a neonatal telemedicine program in improving neonatal outcomes, enhancing parent-infant bonding and reducing unnecessary transfers.
The learner will understand the importance if integrating nursing leadership, engaging bedside staff and utilizing ongoing outreach education into a successful neonatal telemedicine program.
Through real case scenarios and lessons learned, the learner will appreciate how Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) support low-volume, community and rural hospital staff as they deliver high-level newborn care to improve newborn outcomes and reduce the need for unnecessary transfers.

Home NG Feeding After the NICU: Program Evolution, Outcomes, and Implementation Strategies
This session reviews the development of home nasogastric tube feeding programs and the neonatal populations they serve. Participants will examine early outcomes from U.S.-based remote patient monitoring initiatives designed to support safe NICU discharge with NG feeds, explore opportunities for research and collaboration, and identify key barriers and facilitators to help begin planning a program within their own NICU.
Learning Objectives:
Summarize the evolution of home nasogastric tube feeding programs and neonatal populations that have been served.
Explain the early outcomes of US-based remote patient monitoring programs to facilitate discharge from the NICU with nasogastric tube feeds and identify opportunities for research and collaboration.
Understand barriers and facilitators that may be present individual NICUs and begin to formulate a plan for your NICU.
